Each week during the 2014-15 season, a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is junior Brad Craddock of the Maryland football team.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior kicker Brad Craddock had been here before. The waning moments of a football game coming down to his right foot.
Flashback to 2012 as a true freshman, his 33-yard field goal attempt with two seconds left clanged off the left upright allowing NC State to escape College Park with a 20-18 victory.
Saturday at Beaver Stadium, Craddock earned a measure of redemption and booted his first-ever game-winning field goal to earn the Terps' their first all-time win in Happy Valley. Craddock's 43-yard field goal with 51 seconds remaining secured a 20-19 Maryland victory over Penn State and earned Craddock the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week.
“That kick, when I missed, changed my life,” said Craddock. “It made me work harder, train harder. I have been waiting for this one a long time. Any time that I struggle at practice I look back at that day and I just push through. This meant a lot to me.”
Struggles have been non-existent for Craddock this season. The Adelaide, Australia, native is a perfect 14-for-14 this season and has made a Maryland record 20 consecutive field goals dating back to 2013, a mark which is four shy of the Big Ten record and is the longest active streak in FBS.
Craddock also placed his name in the Maryland record book on Oct. 4 with a program-best 57-yard field goal against Ohio State.
Craddock and the Terps will enjoy a bye this week before returning home to take on eighth-ranked Michigan State on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.
