Terps Draw Irish in ACC/Big Ten Challenge
6/4/2014 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
CHICAGO – The Maryland women's basketball team will play Notre Dame in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Dec. 3 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. This year's challenge will mark the eighth year of the event and Maryland is the only team to be 7-0 in Challenge play.
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Terrapins will play the Irish at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum instead of in South Bend. The game will still be a home game for the Irish.
This will mark the ninth meeting between the Terps and the Irish and third in the last year. Maryland fell 87-83 to Notre Dame Jan. 27 at Comcast Center, then they met again in the NCAA Final Four in Nashville, Tenn. in April with Notre Dame advancing to the NCAA title game.
The ACC and Big Ten conference offices determine the schedule each season. In addition, the official title of the Challenge rotates each year. The 2014 event will be referred to as the ACC/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the two conferences' Challenge agreement for men's basketball.
The ACC and the Big Ten have long been among the most dominant conferences on the women's basketball scene. Last season, five Big Ten teams earned NCAA Tournament bids.
