COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's cross country team enters the finishing stretch of its season with an appearance at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. Saturday.
For the first time this season, the Terrapins will be at full strength. Sophomore Hannah Mansbach, freshman Alexandra Lucki and senior Myah Hicks will make their season debuts, combining with Catherine Sheffo and Sydney Almeida, who have been Maryland's top runners so far this year.
The Terps will compete on Lehigh's 6k course in the Women's College Gold Section. The race typically fields some of the best competitors in the country and will be a stern test for the Terps as they prepare for their first Big Ten Championships.
Mansbach enters her season debut coming off a season that saw her finish as the top Terp at two competitions. The Maryland native competed at the Paul Short Run last season. Lucki will be making her Maryland debut in Bethlehem. The Canadian had a decorated youth career, qualifying for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships on the track at 1,500m.
A seasoned competitor, Hicks has participated in three Paul Short runs and was the top Terp at the event in 2012. Sheffo and Almeida have led the way for the Terps so far this season, with Sheffo pacing Maryland at both the Mount St. Mary's Duals and the Salty Dog Invitational.
Five other Terps will also compete in Bethlehem. Maeve McCoy, Alexa Squirini, Charde Barnes, Julia Reed and Emily VandeWater will all look to finish well in a strong field.
The Women's College Gold Section begins at 11:45 a.m. Spectator information can be found here.
