COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland wrestlers Geoffrey Alexander, Shyheim Brown and Spencer Myers were all included in the Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine's (WIN) Preseason Tournament Power Index, released Tuesday.
Alexander occupies the ninth spots at 133 pounds. The Pittsburgh native served a redshirt season last year, accumulating 25 wins, good enough for second on the team. Alexander is a two-time NCAA qualifier and finished second at the ACC Championships as a freshman.
Brown burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman last season, rising to as high as No. 8 in the nation at 141 pounds. The sophomore started the season 11-0 and qualified for his first NCAA Championships. He is slotted in at No. 20 in WIN's ratings.
Currently playing for the Maryland football team, Myers enters his final season ranked 14th. A one-time All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier, Myers enters a stacked Big Ten heavyweight division that has 10 wrestlers in the WIN rankings.
As a team, the Terps are rated 36th as they enter their first season in the Big Ten. Information on wrestling tickets for the upcoming season can be found here.
