#10 Terrapins Whack Gophers, 77-73, Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –  The 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team took control of the Big Ten standings with a 77-73 win at No. 23 Minnesota Sunday at Williams Arena. Maryland (13-2, 4-0 B1G) ended Minnesota's 10-game win streak.

Sophomore Lexie Brown led the Terrapins with 20 points, seven assists and no turnovers, while redshirt junior Brene Moseley scored 15 off the bench. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 15 points as well.

The lead changed five times in the first half, with the Terrapins leading 39-34 at the break.

The Gophers (14-2, 3-1) came out of halftime and took a two-point lead with 14:36 to go.

Maryland pushed the lead to six with 2:53 to go off two free throws by Malina Howard. Minnesota battled back once again to tie it with 1:10 to play, then Brown hit her fourth three-pointer to lead 73-70 with 47 seconds left.

Minnesota's Carlie Wagner hit a trey with 32 seconds remaining to tie it at 73, setting up game-winning foul shots by Moseley with 2.8 seconds left. The Gophers threw away the inbounds pass and Moseley made two more free throws with .9 seconds left, stopping Minnesota's 10-game winning streak.

Amanda Zauhi B. had 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead Minnesota (14-2, 3-1). Wagner scored 15 points and Shae Kelley chipped in 14 for the Golden Gophers.

The Terps are 48-29 (.623) all-time against their 2014-15 Big Ten opponents. In the 13 years under Brenda Frese, the Terps are 16-4 (.800) against their new conference opponents. Frese is 28-10 (.737) all-time vs. Big Ten opponents, which includes her time at Minnesota (2001-02) and at Ball State (1999-01).

Maryland is ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll and No. 12 in the latest Associated Press poll.
