Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening statement:
“Obviously today was a really fun day and just credit our marketing staff, the great environment with the field trip day. The kids were fantastic, into the game and their energy really meant a lot. It was a fun day. I thought as a team we got better today. We have really been trying to focus on things that we feel we need to improve on. I thought defensively we were able to take some steps in terms of where we want to go. Love the unselfish play when you talk about our assist-to-turnover ratio, making plays for each other, being dominant on the glass. Third game of the season, just staying humble and hungry and trying to improve in every area that we can.”
On her 400th career win:
“The video really caught me by surprise. When you get to be my age, it's really emotional. Knowing how much hard work went on behind the scenes and just all the people. That's what it's about. When I think of 400 wins, it's not about the wins, it's the people and it's the relationships that have always centered me as a coach.”
On well-rounded scoring:
“We have to have that kind of depth. It's important to be able to see that. Especially if we are going to see teams play us in a lot of zone. I thought at times we did a really good job of creating shots for others. When we can penetrate that zone to be able to get great kicks for others that helps our offense to be successful.”
On the advantage of her team's depth:
"It's huge. We have so much talent on this roster. Especially when you can talk about bringing weapons off the bench with the size and versatility. It's important for us to be able to have that."
On the state of the team after three games:
"I feel like we're clicking on the offensive end. We have some really dynamic players in terms of our offensive load. It's the other side of the floor that concerns me. We need to make big strides before we head to the Virgin Islands. The level of play is going to go up, three games in three days. We'll get tired legs. The level of play has to go up."
Freshman Forward Kiah Gillespie
On being a part of the 400th win:
"It was really important for me to show up. We played really well as a team. I thought it was very important to play for Coach especially because of the tradition here at Maryland. To be a part of this 400th win is very special to me and I think she's a great coach. She's going to continue to win if we keep playing like how I know she's going to coach us. So overall it was very special."
On advice for Brianna Fraser:
"I just tell her that the game play is really up-tempo and fast. You have to be ready to sprint the floor no matter what. At times it can get difficult because when you play four quarters - it can get a little tiring. It's important to keep your head up and sprint back to the hole, and don't let anybody shoot outside 3."
Junior Guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough
On Kiah's performance:
"She opens up our offense because she's such a mismatch problem for the other team. Whether it's her posting up down low or her calling for the trail 3, it opens up our offense so much. It helps us and creates more opportunities for us. It's a blessing to have her."
Senior Guard Chloe Pavlech
On performance compared to first two games:
"I'm not really sure what I was doing the first two games of the season. Coach Brenda and I actually had a little chat, and I think sort of mentally I wasn't really there. Obviously, today I was ready.”
On hypothetical win number 500:
"Actually, I'll be looking for a job next year, so Coach Brenda, if you want to hire me that would be great."
On elementary students in the stands:
"I had a lot of fun and I'm pretty sure my teammates had a lot of fun. It was really cool seeing the kids dance and be so into the game. I think on one of the plays I told the ref, “I can't hear myself think.” It was a lot of fun and the kids were great."
