COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Six members of the Maryland men's lacrosse team have been named 2016 Preseason All-Americans as announced Thursday by the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook, led by a first team nod to goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr. The six selections were tied for a NCAA-high with Notre Dame and Virginia.
Bernlohr is joined by defender Matt Dunn and short stick midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen, who were named to the second team, in addition to senior Bryan Cole and junior Matt Rambo on the third team and midfielder Pat Young as an honorable mention selection.
A 2015 First Team All-American and the nation's most outstanding goalie, Bernlohr burst onto the national scene as a junior with one of the finest goalkeeping seasons in Maryland history. He won a Maryland-record 15 games in net and led the nation in goals against average (6.95) while ranking sixth in save percentage (.571).
Dunn was named a USILA Third Team All-American in 2015 for his role in a Terrapin defensive unit that allowed a nation's best 7.1 goals/g. He started 15 games in 2015 and totaled 13 ground balls, including a critical scoop that led to the game-winning overtime goal at Ohio State to secure a share of the Big Ten regular season title for Maryland.
Davis-Allen had a tremendous sophomore campaign for the Terps in 2015 as a lockdown short stick midfielder. A key member of the nation's top-ranked defense, Davis-Allen also contributed offensively with three goals and an assist in transition opportunities.
Cole was one of the hottest offensive players in the country in the second half of the 2015 season, totaling 20 of his 39 points over the team's final six games of the season. The Ontario native finished his breakout season with a team-high 22 assists and 19 goals, including an impressive four-goal game that helped knock out North Carolina in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
All-Big Ten attackman Matt Rambo was an offensive force for the Terps in 2015, totaling 59 points on 40 goals and 19 assists. He was the first Maryland player to post 40 goals in a season since Joe Walters accomplished the feat in 2004. Rambo often saved his best for the biggest games, including a four-goal, two-assist performance in the NCAA Semifinals victory against rival Johns Hopkins.
Young is the newest member of the Terps, having transferred to Maryland in the offseason after spending the last three seasons at UMBC. The Ewing, N.J., native totaled 29 points in 2015, and has recorded a point in 38 straight games and 41-of-42 games overall in his career.
