TUCSON, Ariz. – Coming off one of the finest seasons in school history, the Maryland baseball team is ranked No. 28 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper's preseason poll, released Monday.
The Terps are the second highest rated Big Ten program in the poll. Maryland boasts a strong cast of returners, including All-American right handed pitcher Mike Shawaryn and freshman All-American shortstop Kevin Smith, along with a top-20 recruiting class.
Maryland open its season on Feb. 19 with a three-game set at traditional SEC power Alabama. The home opener at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium is slated for Feb. 26 when Rhode Island comes to College Park for a weekend series.
