COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Coming off a 5-2 win over No. 40 Harvard Saturday, the Maryland women's tennis team will take on Rutgers and Penn this weekend at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The Terrapins (4-4) moved to No. 54 in the ITA Rankings, the highest mark in third-year head coach Daria Panova's tenure. Maryland's scheduled match with Cornell on Sunday was canceled due to poor travel conditions for the Big Red.
In singles, senior Welma Luus has won three straight matches to give the Terps a consistent performer at the No. 4 spot. 2014 All-ACC honoree Alexandra Stanova anchors the Terps at the No. 1 positions.
Junior Nataliya Bredikhina has won three straight matches since moving to the No. 3 position in the lineup. Ekaterina Tour has played well at No. 2 while Olga Bredikhina has performed nicely shifting between No. 5 and No. 6.
The Scarlet Knights enter Saturday's contest on a two-match winning streak. Rutgers defeated NJIT and Seton Hall after getting shutout by Princeton. Saturday will also mark the squad's first-ever Big Ten Match. Maryland and Rutgers will square off at noon Saturday.
Penn is 4-1 so far this season and most recently shut out Drexel, 7-0. The Quakers have also defeated Temple, FIU and Albany. They will face the Terps Sunday at noon.
