COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's lacrosse team opened its doors for Media Day Tuesday afternoon at XFINITY Center as head coach John Tillman and co-captains Casey Ikeda and Charlie Raffa addressed the media.
More than 20 media members were on hand to get their first glimpse of the 2015 Maryland lacrosse program, which has advanced to three of the last four NCAA Final Fours.
“It's obviously a very exciting time for us starting the 2015 season,” said Tillman, who is entering his fifth season at the helm. “We got back together a little later this year as a team to give the guys a little bit of a longer break. Since then we have really tried to come together as a team and give guys opportunities to fight for some open positions.”
Tillman also addressed the challenging schedule that awaits Maryland as it transitions into its first season in the Big Ten Conference. The schedule includes non-conference contests against 2014 NCAA qualifiers Loyola (Md.), Penn, Drexel and North Carolina.
“I would say one thing about this year's schedule is I don't see any easy games,” Tillman said. “We better be ready every game that's something we preach to our team. [These games] force you to be focused, prepared and ready for a battle every time you go out.”
The Terrapins open the season on Feb. 14 in Annapolis, Md., against the Naval Academy.
