Brown Named to Lieberman Award Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  –  Sophomore Lexie Brown of the fifth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (20-2, 11-0 B1G) was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List Friday. This is the second straight year Brown has been named to the Watch List for the award honoring the nation's top point guard.

Candidates exhibit the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. For the full Watch List, log on to http://www.pointguard.org/.

Brown serves as the floor leader of the Big Ten's top offense that averages 83.4 points per game. She leads the Big Ten in assist/turnover ratio (2.9) in conference games. Brown is also third in the league in assists (6.1) and steals (2.7) in Big Ten play. She's averaging 12.9 points per game on the year. She's helped lead the Terrapins to the best conference start in school history at 11-0 and a 14-game win streak since early December.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame became the new host of the Nancy Lieberman Award in October 2013 after the Rotary Club of Detroit managed it for several years.

The Hall of Fame appointed a premier Selection Committee made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers to review the candidates. The list will be narrowed down to a final 15, then a final five by March. The Lieberman Award winner will be announced during Final Four weekend activities.

Previous winners of the Nancy Lieberman Award include former Terrapin Kristi Toliver, Skylar Diggins, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.

Next, the Terrapins will host No. 19 Nebraska (17-5, 7-4) Sunday at 4 p.m. at XFINITY Center for the fifth annual Team Tyler game and the Alumni Game.

The Maryland-based organization, There Goes My Hero, will be on-hand to swab any fans that want to join the National Marrow Donor Program. Maryland will welcome children from Camp Sunrise, a week-long summer camp for patients who have been diagnosed or who have dealt with cancer, as well as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and The Zachary Hebda Foundation as part of the Team Tyler events.

The Terrapins will honor former head coach Chris Weller with a banner unveiling at halftime of Sunday's game. In her 27 seasons with the Terps, Weller guided Maryland to three Final Fours, eight Elite Eights, 10 Sweet Sixteen appearances and eight ACC Championships to include a win in the first ever women's basketball ACC Tournament Championship in 1978.

For tickets to Sunday's game or for a season ticket package, log on to the Terrapin Ticket Office online at umterps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP. Parking will be free and open in all of the lots surrounding XFINITY Center.

The Terps-Huskers game will be shown around the world on ESPN2, WatchESPN.com and on the WatchESPN app.

Live stats will be available and live updates will be posted to the Maryland women's basketball Twitter feed.
