ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior defender Casey Ikeda has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading the No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team to a resounding 11-2 victory over then-No. 15 Villanova Saturday.
The senior captain picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover against the Wildcats as the Terps allowed just 20 shots.
Ikeda is part of a defensive unit that currently ranks first in the nation in scoring defense (4.50 goals allowed/game), while supporting goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr - the Division I leader in GAA (4.46) and save percentage (.708).
The award is the fourth Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Terps and second for Ikeda.
No. 5 Maryland leaves for California tomorrow as it prepares to face No. 2 North Carolina in the Pacific Coast Shootout Saturday in Santa Ana, Calif.
