COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Emerging Leaders Program, in collaboration with Life Skills and Career Development, has announced the launch of the “InTERPship Academy”, an innovative initiative which will offer the opportunity for Maryland student-athletes to develop and gain experience in the workplace.
Led by Assistant Athletics Director for Life Skills & Career Development Sue Sherburne and Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA/Chief of Staff Lori Ebihara along with ELP members Stephen Darville, Cody Gambler, Nick Havas, Courtney Hoffman, Kristen Lundy, Mike Sanders, Matt Smale, and Lauren Taylor, the mission of the program is to educate, develop and serve student-athletes through career and professional development opportunities.
“Consistent with The Maryland Way strategic plan goals, we strive to provide the best life skills and career development systems to serve our student-athletes,” Ebihara said. “We are excited about this inaugural student-athlete internship program and appreciate the shared investment of our vision within our campus, community and government agencies. The InTERPship Academy will not only give student-athletes valuable experience and clarify their career goals, but it will also provide job training for companies to hire and retain people who exemplify the same values.”
The InTERPship Academy will launch its first class this summer, with approximately 25 student-athletes being paired with internal and external internship opportunities in various career fields.
