COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Lexie Brown and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of the top-seeded Maryland women's basketball team earned Associated Press All-American honors Tuesday. Brown was named to the five-member Third Team, while Walker-Kimbrough earned an Honorable Mention honor. Both were All-Big Ten First Team honorees.
Brown was named to the WBCA All-Region Team last week and averages 13.4 points per game. She leads the team in assists (4.5) and steals (2.2) per game. She also leads the Terrapins with 67 three-pointers made and helps lead a top-ten offense nationally that averages 79.2 points per game.
Walker-Kimbrough was named the Spokane Regional Most Outstanding Player Monday, after scoring 24 points in the Terps' Sweet Sixteen win over No. 16 Duke and 12 points in Maryland's Elite Eight win over no. 6 Tennesse to go to the Final Four for the second straight year. Walker-Kimbrough averages 13.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Maryland advanced to its second straight Final Four and third under Brenda Frese with a 58-48 win over second-seeded Tennessee Monday night in Spokane.
The Terrapins will take on Connecticut Sunday at approximately 9 p.m. ET at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.
The Terps have won a school-record 28 straight games since the beginning of December. In their first year in the Big Ten, they went 18-0 in the regular season and won the Big Ten Tournament title as well.
