
Terps Finish Day One in South Carolina

AIKEN, S.C. - The Maryland men's golf team finished its first of two days in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, hosted by USC Aiken at the Palmetto Golf Course in Aiken, S.C.
The Terrapins shaved nine strokes off their first round score in round two to shoot a 280. Freshman David Kocher led the turnaround. He shot a 73 (+3) in the first round, then took eight strokes off his score to go five-under with a 65 in the second round. He is currently tied for 15th on the leaderboard.
Fellow freshman Joe Brooks turned his score around as well. Brooks shot a 76 in his first round, then went 10 strokes better with a four-under 66 in the second. He is currently tied for 36th in the standings.
Junior Tom Harris is also tied for 36th, after he went one-under par with a 69 in the first round, then shot a 73 in the second. Senior Connor Tendall scored a 71 in the first round, one stroke over par, then a 76 in the second round. Sophomore Victor Fox shot an 80 in the first 18 and a 79 in the second.
Tuesday's final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live stats will be available.
The course at the Palmetto Golf Club, founded in 1892, is the fourth oldest in the country. It covers 6,617 yards and plays as a par-70.
The 18-team tournament features 17 Division I programs in addition to the Terps. The field includes Clemson, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, GRU Augusta, Idaho, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Loyola (Md.), Presbyterian College, South Carolina, USC Aiken, Virginia, Western Carolina, Wisconsin and Wofford.
