COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As the 2015 Major League Lacrosse season commences, the University of Maryland men's lacrosse team is represented by 20 former players (see the full list below).
In week one of MLL action, 12 Maryland men's lacrosse team alumni found their name in the box score.
Denver Outlaws midfielder Drew Snider put forth a shining effort. The 2012 graduate posted three goals, two assists and four groundballs. Despite a 16-13 loss to the Boston Cannons, Snider's five points were a game-high.
Outlaw teammates Jeremy Sieverts and Max Schmidt each scooped up four groundballs. Sieverts also tallied two assists.
On the winning end were a pair former Terp attackmen, Owen Blye and Ryan Young. Blye mustered one shot on goal for the Cannons, while Young registered one assist and one groundball.
Although the Charlotte Hounds fell, 10-9, in overtime at the hands of the Rochester Rattlers, four hard-shells played key roles for the fourth-year squad. North Carolina native John Haus found the back of net just before halftime to bring the Hounds within one goal heading into the locker room.
Meanwhile, Michael Ehrhardt notched his second career goal while tallying a team-high five groundballs. Joe Cinosky and Brett Schmidt added two groundballs apiece.
In a 14-8 loss to the New York Lizards, goalie Brian Phipps recorded 17 saves for the Ohio Machine.
Phipps' long-time defensive running mate in College Park, Brian Farrell, dished out one assist while picking up a groundball. Jake Bernhardt notched one goal in addition to winning his lone faceoff attempt of the game. Kevin Cooper also tallied a groundball.
The Chesapeake Bayhawks will see their first action of the year when they take on the Florida Launch on Sun. April 19. Five former Terrapins will take the field for the Bayhawks, including 2014 All-American goalie, Niko Amato.
