Laurin Mincy Drafted No. 27 Overall

UNCASVILLE, Conn.  – Laurin Mincy of the Maryland women's basketball team was selected by the New York Liberty with the No. 27 pick overall in the 2015 WNBA Draft Thursday night from the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Mincy was the Terrapins' leading scorer with 13.5 points per game this year as she helped lead them to a perfect 18-0 record in Big Ten play, the Big Ten tournament title and their second straight Final Four.

Eleven players in head coach Brenda Frese's 13 years at Maryland have been drafted. Mincy is the 14th Terrapin in history to be drafted since the league began in 1997.

Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver went second and third overall in 2009, while Crystal Langhorne went sixth and Laura Harper was the 10th pick in the 2008 draft. Most recently, Tianna Hawkins was selected sixth overall by the Seattle Storm in 2013 and Alyssa Thomas went fourth overall to the Liberty last year.

The New York Liberty went 15-19 in the 2014 season. For more on the Liberty, click here.

In her career, Mincy helped the Terrapins to three conference titles and two Final Fours. Throughout the year, she showed leadership, served as a voice for the team, while leading the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game and in three-point shooting percentage (38.5 percent). She played in 143 career games, more than every Terrapin in history, except Coleman, who played in 144.
