COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior attackman Jay Carlson has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the No. 2 Maryland men's lacrosse team's (12-1, 4-0 B1G) 10-9 overtime victory at Ohio State over the weekend.
Carlson's sudden death tally clinched at least a share of the inaugural Big Ten regular season title for the Terps, who are 4-0 in conference play. The honor marks Carlson's first conference award of the season, and second offensive award for Maryland in 2015.
The Cockeysville, Md., native was the difference-maker for the Terps Saturday, notching three goals and an assist against the Buckeyes. Carlson scored two of his goals in the first half, before slotting home the winning goal with 49 seconds left in overtime.
The 2nd-ranked Terps close their regular season slate Saturday at 8 pm as they host Johns Hopkins for “The Rivalry.” Maryland would clinch the conference regular season title outright with a win, while the Blue Jays are looking to grab a share of the title.
