COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland track & field graduate student Jakub Zivec is set to compete in the 1500 meter run this week at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The preliminary rounds of the 1500m run are scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, at 7:14 pm EST, with the final round to follow on Friday, June 12, at 7:45 pm EST.
Zivec advanced to Eugene, Ore., by cruising to a fifth place finish at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., last weekend. Known for his tactical racing style and strong finishing kick, Zivec navigated his way through a thick pack of runners to finish with a time of 3:45.11.
“Jakub is a gritty and tough runner,” said head coach Andrew Valmon. “He works hard and takes racing as seriously as his business courses. He is a leader by example and knows how to compete. When Jakub is in eyesight on the finish line he is a force to be reckoned with and will not let anyone stand in his way.”
A citizen of the Czech Republic, Zivec received his undergraduate degree at Florida State before enrolling at Maryland to obtain his graduate degree from the Robert H. Smith School of Business. He is set to finish classes this summer.
