COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Mael Corboz, Alex Crognale, and Chris Odoi-Atsem have been selected by U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team head coach Andi Herzog as three of 28 players who will train in Carson, Calif., for a College Identification training camp that will allow the coaching staff to scout a new crop of collegiate players as the team continues preparations ahead of October qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“I am delighted that Juergen Klinsmann and Andi Herzog have decided to give our top college players a look in advance of the Olympic Qualifying tournament,” Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “It is an extremely positive statement by US Soccer that our college players are an important part of our country's player development program.
"I am also very happy for Mael, Chris and Alex for this opportunity. They will be a huge part of our team this fall and undoubtedly have a bright future ahead."
Corboz, a senior midfielder, was named the Big Ten Tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player after guiding the Terps to their first-ever Big Ten tournament crown. Corboz was also a First Team All-Big Ten pick after leading the league in goals scored (10).
Crognale, a junior center back, appeared in 20 games last season, posting 16 starts. A solid offensive weapon on set pieces, Crognale also notched one assist against Michigan and scored the game-winning goal against then-#5 Indiana.
Odoi-Atsem was a First Team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore last season after starting in 21 games and helping the defense secure nine shutouts.
The group will train from August 5-8 at the U.S. National Training Center in Carson.
