Wrestling Releases 2015-16 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy announced the Terps' 2015-16 schedule Wednesday with a lineup that features home duals with Big Ten foes Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan along with road trips to perennial national powers Iowa and Minnesota.

In total, the Terps will contest 18 duals this season including nine Big Ten contests. Five of Maryland's opponents (Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin) finished in the top-20 at the NCAA Championships last season.

“This schedule is perfect for our team this year,” McCoy said. “We get to see some familiar opponents and some new ones. Our guys are hungry to get back on the mat and I am excited for the season. The new guys we brought in combined with our returning guys put us in a position to be very successful this year.”

Maryland's season kicks off with the annual Red and Black Wrestle-Offs on Oct. 25 before competition begins at the Terrapin Duals on Nov. 1. The Terps will wrestle Johns Hopkins, Buffalo and Pittsburgh beginning at 10 a.m., at the annual event.

A trip to Iowa on Nov. 20 starts the Big Ten slate. The Hawkeyes finished second in the 2015 NCAA Championships. Maryland will then make another trip to the Grapple at the Garden in New York on Nov. 29 to face Illinois and Hofstra before returning home to face Drexel on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.

A week later, Maryland will play host to Nebraska on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in its first home Big Ten dual. The Terps make its annual journey to the Midlands in Evanston, Ill on Dec. 29-30. Maryland notched a top-10 finish at the tournament last season.

The Big Ten schedule continues on Jan. 8 as the Terps head to Minnesota to take on the Gophers. Two days later, Michigan State will be in College Park for a Sunday afternoon matinee at the XFINITY Center.

On Jan. 15, Maryland will head to Bloomington for its first Big Ten showdown with Indiana before its inaugural away date versus Purdue (Jan. 17). The Terrapins will stay on the road for a showdown with Navy on Jan. 22 in Annapolis.

Wisconsin comes to town on Jan. 24 for a dual at 1 p.m. The Terps will then travel to Rutgers on Jan. 29 before returning home to face Michigan on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.

Maryland will face George Mason in the second annual “Beauty and the Beast” event on Feb. 14. The regular season finale and Senior Day occurs on Feb. 20 when the Terps take on Rider at 5 p.m.

The Big Ten Championships will be held in Iowa City from March 5-6. The Terps will travel back up to New York for the NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden from March 17-19.
