Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The ninth-ranked Maryland field hockey team shut out No. 20 Princeton for a 3-0 win at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Tuesday night. With the win, the Terrapins (6-3, 1-0 Big Ten) won their fourth straight game.
Redshirt junior Emma Rissinger scored the Terrapins' first two goals for her first career two-goal game. Sophomore Lein Holsboer added Maryland's third goal later in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Holliday picked up her first career shutout.
Rissinger opened the scoring with a goal in the 17th minute. Holsboer carried the ball down the left side and Rissinger tipped it in past Princeton goalkeeper Anya Gersoff for the score.
Six minute later, Rissinger made it a two-goal lead for the Terrapins when she tapped in a shot by senior Alyssa Parker from the left baseline.
Holsboer scored the Terrapins' third goal off a penalty corner with just over 10 minutes to play. She inserted on the play, then knocked in the rebound off of Faye Curran's saved shot.
Maryland outshot Princeton (2-4), 24 to five and had nine penalty corners to three.
Head coach Missy Meharg is in her 28th season as head coach of the Terrapins. She's led them to a record of 496-122-9 (.798), seven NCAA titles, 20 conference titles and 16 Final Fours.
Senior Anna Dessoye was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year and third time in her career Tuesday. Linnea Gonzales was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time.
Next, the Terrapins will host No. 18 Michigan (6-2, 1-0) Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free and parking will be free and open in lot 11b, the lot directly next to the Complex, at 2 p.m.
