COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's basketball team will host its second annual Field Trip Day on Friday, Nov. 20 vs. Detroit Mercy. The Terrapins and the Titans will tip off at 11 a.m. at the XFINITY Center.
The 2015 Big Ten champion Terrapins will offer free admission to all preregistered elementary schools and classes. Teachers who register their classes will receive free lesson plans aligned with Common Core standards, focusing on numeracy and literacy, while familiarizing students with the game of basketball.
Teachers can register their classes here. For more information on Field Trip Day, click here.
Last year, the Terrapins welcomed nearly 2,000 local elementary school students from 15 area schools to the first-ever Field Trip Day that kicked off the 2014-15 season.
Maryland went 18-0 in Big Ten play in its first year in the league last year. Head coach Brenda Frese was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second time in her career, while juniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough both earned All-Big Ten First Team honors. The Terrapins beat Ohio State, 77-74, in the Big Ten Championship game to sweep the regular season and tournament titles.
Top-seeded Maryland went on to knock off undefeated Princeton in the NCAA Second Round. The Terrapins advanced to the Spokane Regional, where they beat Duke in the Sweet Sixteen, then second-seeded Tennessee in the Elite Eight to head to the Final Four in Tampa, Fla.
