Former Terps Coleman, Kizer Advance to WNBA Finals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Marissa Coleman and Lynetta Kizer made their marks on the University of Maryland while starring on the basketball court and now they are doing it on the WNBA's biggest stage. Tuesday night, Coleman was Indiana's leading scorer, with 15 points on five three pointers in the Fever's series-clinching win over New York, 66-51. Kizer added five points for the Fever, who advance to face Minnesota in the WNBA Finals.

“Nothing makes me happier than seeing special people like this smile," Maryland head coach Brenda Frese said. "It was great seeing them celebrate. We're all really happy for Marissa and Lynetta and that includes everyone connected with our program. I'm pretty sure Crystal Langhorne traveled up to New York to support them.”

Coleman, now in her seventh season as a pro, has thrived since signing with Indiana in 2014 and was named a WNBA All-Star in 2015.  She immediately etched her name into the hearts of Maryland faithful as a freshman, playing a critical role in Maryland winning the 2006 National Championship. A first team All-American, Coleman's college career saw her score 2,205 points and grab 1,139 rebounds, both among the best ever at Maryland. She became the first player in ACC history to record over 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocked shots. Her name and #25 hang from the rafters in Xfinity Center at the University of Maryland.

Kizer is in her fourth season as a pro and helped capture two ACC Championships at Maryland in 2009 and 2012. She's coming off a remarkable pro season in Turkey in 2014-15 in which she led the Turkish league in scoring at 19 points per game.

Indiana's WNBA Finals series with Minnesota starts on Sunday, October 4 at 3 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC. Click here for the full Finals schedule or see below.
