
Mattes Named Volunteer Assistant Coach

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's lacrosse coach John Tillman has announced Chris Mattes has joined the Terrapin coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.
A USILA All-America faceoff specialist during his collegiate career at Rutgers from 2007-11, Mattes has spent the last five seasons in Major League Lacrosse while also serving as an assistant coach at Westfield High School in 2014 and 2015.
Mattes has appeared in all 28 games over his last two seasons in Florida, including a league-high 403 faceoff wins in 2014. He was also a member of the 2011 MLL Champion Boston Cannons.
During his career at Rutgers, Mattes won 160-of-252- faceoff draws (63.5%) and was named First Team All-Big East in addition to his all-america honors.
The co-founder of “The Faceoff Academy” in 2013, Mattes currently runs camps and training sessions for faceoff men all over the country from the youth to the college level.
