Before any of the early games even reached halftime, three former Maryland receiving threats found their way into the endzone on Sunday during a fantastic Week 6 of the NFL season.
First, Steelers wide receiver Darrius-Heyward Bey put his all-too-familiar speed on full display when he scored for the second time in three weeks. He took an end-around handoff down the sidelines, bounced off of one defender, and sprinted past a few more to cap off a 60-yard touchdown.
Next, 49ers wideout Torrey Smith hauled in a deep ball from Colin Kaepernick and took it the house for a 53-yard touchdown. Smith finished the day with three receptions for 76 yards as the Niners fell to the Bills by a score of 45-16.
Finally, Redskins tight end Vernon Davis filled the absence of starter Jordan Reed by catching a 13-yard touchdown pass to give Washington a two-score lead before halftime. Davis also recorded a 37-yard catch, giving him 50 yards on the game.
Receivers weren't the only former Terps with significant contributions during Week 6. Texans placekicker Nick Novak nailed a 33-yard game-winner in overtime to give Houston a 26-23 victory over the Colts.
Staying in the AFC South, Jaguars rookie phenom Yannick Ngakoue continued his blazing hot start to his young NFL career. Ngakoue recorded a sack for the fourth straight week, putting him in sole possession of the rookie lead for sacks.
