
Balsdon Earns Second Straight Weekly Honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Graduate student Grace Balsdon of the seventh-ranked Maryland field hockey team (8-3) was named Co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday for the second straight week.
Balsdon helped lead Maryland to a win over a top-10 team with a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Michigan Friday. With the Wolverines up 1-0 in the first half, Balsdon made a defensive save in the 28th minute to hold the score at a one-goal lead. In the 44th minute, she scored off a penalty corner to tie the game for Maryland.
She hit the ball into the circle to start the play that led to scores on both of Maryland's second and third goals.
Balsdon shares the honor with Jenny Rizzo of Penn State.
Maryland will host No. 13 Old Dominion (6-4) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free and parking will be free and open after 4 p.m.

Balsdon leads Maryland with 10 goals, Luus has nine, Linnea Gonzales has six and Rissinger has five, giving the Terps one of the most balanced attacked in the country.
After Tuesday's match, the Terrapins will host Michigan State (5-6, 1-2) Friday at 6 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free and parking will be free after 4 p.m.
