
Six Terrapins Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Big Ten champion Maryland field hockey team landed six student-athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's All-Mid Atlantic Region Teams Tuesday, as voted by the nation's coaches.
Graduate student Grace Balsdon, junior Lein Holsboer and senior Welma Luus were named to the 16-member First Team. Sophomore Linnea Gonzales, junior Carrie Hanks and redshirt senior Emma Rissinger were named to the Second Team.
Gonzales, Luus, who was the Big Ten Player of the Year, and Hanks are second-time honorees and Gonzales and Luus earned Second Team All-America honors last year.
This is the first honor for Holsboer, Rissinger and Balsdon, who was also named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Luus led the Terrapins offensively with 15 goals and eight assists and Balsdon was second with 14. Gonzales scored 10 goals this season. Rissinger added six goals, while she and Holsboer each notched 11 assists. Hanks scored twice and picked up six assists.
The Terrapins went 18-5 this season, winning the Big Ten regular season title. They made the program's 22nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season, marking the longest current active streak in the country.
