COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Brenda Frese and the third-ranked Maryland women's basketball team announced the 13th season of the program's all-access television show, “Under the Shell”, Friday. The season premiere will air Sunday, Dec. 25 on Comcast SportsNet at 11 a.m. ET.
For the past 12 seasons, “Under the Shell” has given fans an “all-access” look inside the program. No other women's basketball program in the country has had a show like it or for as long. Along the way, the show has captured incredible moments, creating a video scrapbook for fans, players and their families. Every episode of the previous 12 seasons is available on the Terrapins' YouTube page.
"Under the Shell has been a real treasure for us,” Frese said. “It tells terrific stories and captures very candid moments for fans to enjoy. It's also like a video scrapbook for our players and their families. So many amazing moments have been caught and will be there to be enjoyed for them.”
"It's a great experience for our players. They learn to be very comfortable with cameras around them and they get lots of experience giving interviews. You get to see our players grow up before your eyes. Nobody else really has anything like Under the Shell and it is a huge advantage we have here at Maryland."
Now in its 13th season of production, “Under the Shell” continues, courtesy of the access granted by Frese and funding from the athletic department. It airs both locally and nationally on satellite. Fans with DirecTV can catch it on channel 642 and fans with Verizon Fios can watch on channel 576. Click here for your channel number for Comcast SportsNet.
After the Dec. 25 season premiere, the second episode will air Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. ET. Episodes will follow every two weeks into April.
This season, Under the Shell will be produced by five-time Emmy Award-winning producer and videographer Rich Daniel. He has produced projects for ESPN, worked in the NFL and experienced the news business as the sports director at WJLA-TV in Washington. His broadcasting career began on-campus at Maryland with WMUC doing color commentary for the Maryland women's basketball team.
Scott Robinson will be assisting Daniel. Robinson is a photographer and video producer, as well as the author of Faces of NASCAR, a coffee table picture book on stock car racing. He began his career working as a newspaper photographer and his pictures have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated.
