COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The third-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (12-0) will host No. 1 Connecticut (11-0) in front of a sold-out crowd at the XFINITY Center on Thursday at 6 p.m.
This is the third XFINITY Center sell-out for the women's basketball program, with the previous two in the 2006-07 season.
Parking will be available on the surface lots surrounding the XFINITY Center, as well as the Terrapin Trail Garage and the Regents Drive Garage. Fans are encouraged to follow the directions of traffic control staff, as traffic patterns may change. Click here for a campus parking map.
Fans with disability tags will be directed to park in the Terrapin Trail Garage, once the handicap parking spaces in the surface lots are full. Fans can enter the arena from the Terrapin Trail Garage through gates E and F.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a “Frese Fest” T-shirt at the door.All fans are encouraged to wear white to support the “White Out.” Doors will open to the public at 4:30 p.m.
Fans are reminded that a new clear bag policy will be in effect for all games at the XFINITY Center, including the Terps' matchup with Connecticut. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to decrease wait times. Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bags into the arena.
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
- One gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bags, measuring 4.5” x 6.5” with or without a handle or strap
All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes, but is not limited to: purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases and diaper bags. The Terps-Huskies matchup will be televised around the world on ESPN2, WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
The matchup can also be heard online through the Maryland Sports Network on 1300 AM in Baltimore, 570 AM in Washington and the TuneIn app.
This is the fifth all-time meeting between Maryland and Connecticut. The Huskies have won the previous four meetings. Most recently, UConn won 83-73 at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 28, 2015. Brionna Jones led the Terps with 24 points, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 14 and Kristen Confroy scored 12.
Most recently, the Terps won at Duquesne, 77-57, on Dec. 21. Brionna Jones led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Walker-Kimbrough added 17 points and Confroy scored 10.
The Terps are leading the country in field goal percentage (51.5%) and are second in the nation in rebounding margin (+18.1) and scoring margin (+35.8). They are third in scoring (91.2) and fourth in assists (20.9).
The Terrapins are ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press poll and No. 3 in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll.
After Thursday's matchup, the Terps will open Big Ten play with a game at Minnesota (9-4) Sunday at 6 p.m. ET in Minneapolis. The Terps-Gophers game will be streamed online through BTN Plus and the BTN2Go app.
