Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening statement:
"Obviously after a run of four straight games on the road, it's great to be able to come home in front of our tremendous fans and continue to play extremely well. I thought our starters set the tone early for us, and I thought we were able to really extend with our depth. Always love seeing the stat line of really positive assist to turnover ratio: 29 assists, every player scoring, and just being unselfish as a team as we were today. Obviously we're getting prepared now for the four games in nine days that we'll be playing here and just continuing to go out and get better."
On seeing the effects of the Louisville game aftermath in today's game:
"Just by the maturity, I did. And I told them this, even in the pregame, after the Louisville game you always can kind of see a team, where their confidence and ego goes after a great win. And I thought in our practice yesterday, we came out just really hungry and had a really solid practice. We competed even though we were fatigued and I thought we were still pretty fatigued today, but I thought we fought hard, didn't play the score and tried to get better. I liked the mentality."
On having four games in nine days:
"We want to continue to keep getting better. There's a lot of things as coaches that we try to see the big picture. Our rebounding, our defense, our turnovers. Against Louisville we had way too many turnovers, so just so many areas we can stay hungry in. Our depth is a major factor for us this year and we want to try to extend that. We have to continue to use these games to continue to build our confidence."
On how important it is to keep a deep rotation:
"It's huge. That helps everybody recover. It also helps us to play really hard when we're on the court with spreading minutes around. With our depth, it's the point of taking advantage of it so we can continue to strengthen it as we get into conference play. It's big for us in this stretch."
"Kristen has one of the strongest mindsets and mentality on our team. As we continue to check in, it never changed. Just like tonight it won't change, it's always been the same. That's a credit to the work she's put in. She knows the percentages and all the numbers, it's going to come her way. She continued to take as many shots as she always does in practice and keep working on her game. I thought our team today did a better job of finding her when she was open. Sometimes we've missed her in the past when she hasn't been able to get as many open looks. That's going to continue to build for us as a team as we continue to get more games under our belt. To get comfortable with so many new players, we'll be able to find her."
Junior Guard Kristen Confroy
On shooting well at XFINITY:
“Being a shooter you just have to keep trusting the process. Every shot I've taken has felt like it's going in. Earlier in the year it just wasn't, but that's just something you have to deal with sometimes. You just have to keep getting shots up and keep trusting the process. Obviously it was great to see the ball go in a couple times and just being at home makes it even better.”
On playing four games in nine days:
“Having so many games in a row not only gives us the opportunity to play to our own standard, but also to see how much we can push that wall in terms of fatigue. Obviously it's a tough stretch, but being able to push through that wall and have our depth come in and show what they can do is big for us to grow as a team and prepare for down the road in March.”
Freshman Guard Destiny Slocum
On the team's mindset coming off a big game against Louisville:
“It's always the same mentality. If we were to change our mentality we would just be a weak team. Every opponent that we play out there is as good as the best team in the country — that's the mentality we have.”
Sophomore Forward Kiah Gillespie
On her career-high 13 rebounds:
“I was just focused on doing something for my team. My shot wasn't falling — I think I went 1-for-5 — but that didn't matter. I just was trying to continue to rebound and keep second-chance points alive for me and my teammates.”
