
Maryland Travels to Ohio for Spire Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland track and field team will look to build on a solid performance at the Armory Invitational when it travels to the Spire Invite this weekend in Geneva, Ohio.

Leading off
- Junior Micha Powell continued her sensational season with another school record at the Armory Invitational. Powell clocked 53.73 in the 400m to set a new program best mark. At the Penn State Relays, she ran 1:12.46 in the 500m to notch a school record.
- In the throwing events, senior Chioma Onyekwere enters the weekend after winning the shot put in New York with a throw of 52-08.00. She has won four event titles this season.
- Sophomore Claudia Ababio took second in both the weight throw and the shot put at the Terrapin Invitational and will be back in action this weekend.
- Alexandra Lucki placed second in a strong field in the one mile run at the Armory Invitational, finishing in 4.45.36, the second-best mark in school history. Lucki won the 600m at the Terrapin Invitational with a time of 1:35.29. She has been one of the Terps' most versatile performers this season with top-three finishes in five different events.
- Catherine Voelpel had a strong showing in New York, taking second in the 500m in 1.15.49.
- Junior Lisa Meneau won the 300m at the Terrapin Invitational in a school record 39.24. She'll be back on the track this weekend.
- In the high jump, Johnna Dominick returns to action after a third-place finish at the Terrapin Invitational. Freshman Izzy Laurel is also scheduled to compete.
- Maryland features a strong distance contingent that includes Emily VandeWater, Catherine Sheffo, Alexa Squirini and Sydney Almeida.
- Maryland had a strong showing at the Terrapin Invitational. Maryland women's team won the competition with 180 points while the men's team also had a number of strong performances.
- Senior Dan Trettel has been Maryland's top men's performer this season and backed that up with a third-place finish in the 1000m in 2:27.98 and a fourth-place finish in the mile in 4:11.32.
- Freshman Carlos Vanzego had a breakout performance to take the triple jump crown at the Terrapin Invitational and will be back in action this weekend.
