Balanced Offense Propels #1 Terps to B1G Finals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Brionna Jones had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 5 Maryland to an 83-62 victory over Northwestern in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament on Saturday.

Tierney Pfirman finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brene Moseley each had 15 points for the Terrapins (29-3), who advance to the tournament championship game for the second year in a row since joining the conference last season. Confroy scored 14 points as five Terps scored in double digits against Northwestern.

Maryland took a 25-14 lead after the first quarter, helped by five points from Confroy. The Wildcats outscored the Terps 16-12 in the second quarter to pull within seven at halftime, 37-30.

Maryland shot 63 percent in the second half while holding Northwestern to 34.3 percent in the second half to continue the lead. The Terrapins used a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away for their eighth straight win.

Jones converted a 3-point play and Confroy made a 3-pointer before Moseley made a pair of free throws to give the Terrapins a 71-48 lead with six minutes remaining.

The Terps outrebounded the Wildcats 44-34 while holding a 33-17 advantage in bench points.

Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were both named to the All-Big Ten First Teams by the head coaches and the media this week. Redshirt senior Brene Moseley was named Sixth Player of the Year and to the All-Big Ten Second Team by the league's coaches. Walker-Kimbrough was also named to the five-member All-Big Ten Defensive Team.

Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were two of 14 players in the country named to the Wooden Award Final Ballot. Walker-Kimbrough is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy.

The Terrapins will play either the 2-seed Ohio State (24-6) or the 3-seed Michigan State (23-7) Sunday at 7 p.m. ET in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. Sunday's game will be televised around the world on ESPN, the WatchESPN app and WatchESPN.com.
