Maryland fell to No. 42 Northwestern, 6-1, Sunday morning at the Maryland Tennis Center in College Park. The Terps drop to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats held the Terps to only one point for the day. Cassandre Thebault notched one victory for Maryland in singles play against Alex Chatt, 6-7(5), 6-2, 1(5).
In singles play, Alexandra Stanova battled against Northwestern's Erin Larner, falling by a score of 6-3, 7-5, 1(5). Terps struggled in the bottom positions, Olga Bredikhina and Ekaterina Tour being edged out by junior Wildcats' Jillian Rooney, 6-2, 6-1, and Brooke Rishchbieth, 6-3, 7-5.
Doubles play saw the No.13 duo of Maddie Lipp and Alex Chatt take down Stanova and Hovsepyan, 6-1. In the No.2 position, Ekaterina Tour and Arnelle Sullivan were defeated by Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner, 6-3.
The Terps will continue conference play at home on Sunday, March 13, against Purdue. Action is scheduled to start at noon.
