
Mercer Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Alice Mercer of the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team was named Big Ten Defender of the Week after helping the Terps to two wins last week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
Against No. 13 Virginia, Mercer caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls in a 17-6 win. In an 18-8 victory over Michigan, the Woodbine, Md., native caused two turnovers and picked up one ground ball.
A four-year starter, Mercer leads the fourth-ranked Maryland defense, which is allowing just 6.44 goals per game. A two-time All-American, Mercer has 25 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers on the season.
The Terps (16-0, 4-0 B1G) finish the regular season at No. 13 Penn State (11-4, 3-1) Thursday. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. Maryland clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title last weekend and can win the championship outright against the Nittany Lions.
