
#1 Terps to Meet 'Cuse in NCAA Quarters

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 overall seed Maryland men's lacrosse team will make its 24th appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals when it faces 8-seed Syracuse Saturday at noon in Providence, R.I., on the campus of Brown University. The Terps (54-36 all-time in NCAAT) and Syracuse are meeting for the eighth time in the NCAA Tournament, and first time since unseeded Maryland defeated 1-seed Syracuse, 6-5, in overtime in the 2011 quarterfinals.

Facing off
• Maryland has protected the ball well over its last eight games, averaging just 8.5 turnovers during that span. The Terps have not committed more than 10 turnovers in a game during the stretch, highlighted by just five turnovers against Johns Hopkins on April 30.
• The Terps have won 12 NCAA Tournament games since head coach John Tillman took over the program in 2011 - tied for the most in the NCAA over that span with Denver. It is also the most NCAA wins in a six-year stretch for the program since Bud Beardmore's Terps won 13 games between 1971-76.
• Freshman Austin Henningsen was sensational in the Terps' win over Quinnipiac, winning 14-of 17 (.824) faceoffs and picking up seven ground balls. He currently ranks eighth in the nation with a 63.5 faceoff winning percentage.
• Maryland won its 15th game of the season against Quinnipiac, tying the program-record for wins set in 2015. The Terps have also won a single-season program record 14 straight games, scoring 12 goals per game during the streak and allowing just 7.5 goals per game.
• Saturday's meeting marks the 17th matchup in history between Maryland and Syracuse, with the Terps holding a 10-6 advantage in a series that dates back to 1927. The Orange hold a narrow 4-3 series lead in NCAA Tournament meetings, though Maryland has won two of the last three.
• Maryland holds a formidable 23-11 (.676) all-time record in the NCAA Quarterfinal round, including four consecutive victories dating back to 2011. Head coach John Tillman is 4-0 all-time in the quarterfinals, winning the last three games by at least six goals.
• Junior Matt Rambo is one of the hottest players in college lacrosse, totaling 24 points over his last five games. He hasposted 13 goals and 11 assists during that span, including 11 points in the Big Ten Tournament to claim MVP honors. Rambo has 15 goals and nine assists in eight NCAA appearances.
• Maryland has 10 players on its roster that have played at least 50 career collegiate games. Defenders (5): Greg Danseglio (62), Matt Dunn (60), Isaiah Davis-Allen (52), Mac Pons (51), Kyle Bernlohr (50). Midfielders (3): Henry West (63), Bryan Cole (61), Pat Young (59). Attackmen (2): Matt Rambo (53), Colin Heacock (51).
• The Terrapins are 64-4 under John Tillman when scoring at least 10 goals in a game, including a spectacular mark of 45-1 over the last four seasons. That trend has continued this season with a perfect 14-0 mark. Maryland is also 62-4 when leading at halftime under Tillman.
• Junior Matt Rambo scored three goals against Quinnipiac to pass Bill Pettit (1962-64) for 11th on Maryland's goal scoring list with 105 goals. Rambo has also tallied a point in 35 straight games and ranks 22nd in Maryland history with 152 points.

Coaching Match-Up
• John Tillman is in his ninth season as a head coach, and sixth with the Terps, with a 98-44 career record for a .690 winning percentage. Tillman is 78-25 (.757) as Maryland's head coach.

• The meeting with Syracuse will be John Tillman's 18th NCAA tournament game as a head coach, compiling an 12-5 overall record. He has led Maryland to four final fours and three championship game appearances in five seasons.
• Tillman is 5-1 in first round games, 4-0 in quarterfinal games and 3-1 in semfinals.
• Tillman is the only coach in NCAA history to guide two unseeded teams to back-to-back appearances in the Final Four (2011-12).
• As an assistant coach, Tillman helped guide Navy to four consecutive NCAA tournaments from 2004-07, including a run to the 2004 championship game.

• Maryland is playing in its 39th NCAA Tournament - the second-most since the inception of the NCAA Tournament in 1971. The Terps have also qualified for 14 straight NCAA Tournaments - the longest active streak in the nation.
• The Terps have won the third-most Division I NCAA Tournament games, compiling a 54-36 overall record in 90 games. Only Johns Hopkins (70-35) and Syracuse (64-24) have won more Division I tournament games.
• The Terps have captured two titles. Only nine other schools have ever won the NCAA Championship: Syracuse (10), Johns Hopkins (9), Princeton (6), North Carolina (4), Virginia (5), Cornell (3), Duke (3), Loyola (1) and Denver (1).
Terps beat quinnipiac in First round
• No. 1 Maryland defeated Quinnipiac, 13-6, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament May 15 behind a trio of hat tricks from Matt Rambo, Bryan Cole and Colin Heacock.
• Freshman Austin Henningsen was sensational at the faceoff X against the Bobcats, winning 14-of-17 faceoffs. He was 12-for-12 in the first half.
MARYLAND wins big ten tournament
• Marylanddefeated Rutgers, 14-8, to claim the Big Ten Conference Tournament title May 7at Homewood Field. The championship marked Maryland's fifth conference tournament title in history, and third regular season and conference tournament sweep.
• With the win, Maryland (14-2) earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking the Terps' NCAA-best 14th straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
• Junior Matt Rambo, who finished with 11 points (6G, 5A) in the tournament, was named Big Ten Tournament MVP. Joining Rambo on the Big Ten All-Tournament team were seniors Kyle Bernlohr, Bryan Cole and Greg Danseglio and sophomore Connor Kelly.
Terps advance to big ten final
• The top-seed Maryland men's lacrosse team opened with six straight goals and never looked back as it defeated 4-seed Penn State, 16-9, in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals May 5 at Homewood Field
• The win marked the Terrapins' 12th consecutive victory, matching the single-season program record set by the 1987 team.
• Sophomore Connor Kelly scored a career-high four goals and Matt Rambo added three goals and two assists, while Kyle Bernlohr made 12 saves in net for the Terrapins.

• Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 64 of the 68 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals for a .941 winning percentage.
• The Terps have won 47 of their last 48 games when scoring at least 10 goals, only falling to Johns Hopkins during that streak in 2015.

TERPS' 91st SEASON OF LACROSSE
• The Terps boast an all-time record of 790-263-4 (.749), dating back to the first varsity team in 1924 (a team was not fielded in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II). Maryland has finished every one of its previous 90 seasons with a .500 or better record, including last season when the Terps went 15-4. The program reached the 700-win milestone with a 15-6 victory over Penn on April 14, 2009 at Ludwig Field.
• During the decade of the 2000s, Maryland went 111-49 for a .694 win percentage, making it the winningest decade in Terrapin lacrosse history. In the decade of the 1990s, Maryland posted a 95-47 record. The .669 winning percentage matched Maryland's win percentage of the 1980s when the Terps went 83-41 and also compiled a .669 win percentage.
• So far, Maryland is 68-19 in the 2010's for a .782 winning percentage - on pace for the best decade in Maryland history.
