COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A program and Big Ten Conference record seven members of the No. 3 Maryland men's lacrosse team were named to the 2016 Men's Lacrosse All-Big Ten Teams, as announced Tuesday by the Big Ten Conference. The teams were determined by a vote among conference head coaches.
Maryland featured a league-high three players on the first team: senior goalie Kyle Bernlohr, senior midfielder Bryan Cole and junior short stick defensive midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen. The honorable mention team included senior long pole Greg Danseglio, junior attackman Colin Heacock, junior defender Tim Muller and junior attackman Matt Rambo.
The seven all-conference selections broke the program record of six selections that was set on two occasions (1978, 2015). Maryland has totaled 18 all-conference selections over the past three seasons.
Additionally, senior defender Michael McCarney earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Bernlohr currently leads the Big Ten Conference in both goals against average (7.62) and save percentage (.531). In 33 career starts, Bernlohr has posted a 27-6 record while allowing more than 10 goals just twice.
Cole leads the Terps in assists (19) in addition to tallying 16 goals for 35 points through 14 games. The Oakville, Ontario, native scored a pair of game-winning goals to defeat Michigan and Penn State in back-to-back games earlier this season.
Davis-Allen has emerged as one of the top short stick defensive midfielders in the country as a junior, serving as a shut down defender and also as a key component on the faceoff wing. He has totaled 30 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers.
Danseglio has been a welcomed addition in his first season as a starter for the Terps, leading all Big Ten defenders with 50 ground balls while also causing 12 turnovers. The Virginia transfer has totaled 145 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers in 59 career games.
Heacock has pieced together a phenomenal breakout season in 2016, posting career-highs in points (37), goals (32) and assists (5) and scoring at least two goals in 12-of-14 games. His 32 goals are currently tied for ninth in Maryland history in a single season among Terrapin juniors all-time.
In his first full season as a starter, Muller has been lauded as one of the top defenders in the country in 2016. A three-time winner of Big Ten Defender of the Week, Muller has posted 29 ground balls and a team-high 20 caused turnovers (second in the Big Ten).
Rambo has been the steadying force offensively for the Terps in 2016, transforming his game as a facilitator to complement his scoring ability. The Glenside, Pa., native leads Maryland with 41 points on 26 goals and 15 assists, posting at least four points in five separate games.
