Terps Drop Two To Indiana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Maryland's two leading hitters, Skylynne Ellazar and Kristina Dillard, each knocked three hits, as the Terps fell in both games of a Saturday twin-bill to Indiana.

Maryland dropped the early game by a score of 8-3, before a 12-1 loss in game two.

Brenna Nation threw 8.2 of the twelve innings for the Terrapins, picking up five strikeouts. Ellazar hit two doubles on the day, to boost her season total to eleven.

GAME ONE

Kristina Dillard continued her late season sprint with a 2-for-4 outing, in an 8-3 loss to Indiana.

After retiring the first two batters of the first inning, starter Brenna Nation had six straight Hoosier batters reach base, good for three runs.

A Sarah Lang single was the only hit Maryland fared in the first three innings, before Indiana scored two more to make it 5-0 Hoosiers in the fourth.

Maryland looked to respond in the bottom half of the fourth, loading the bases with no outs. Destiney Henderson and Skylynne Ellazar opened with walks before Dillard popped a single. Jordan Aughinbaugh drew a one-out bases loaded walk to put the Terrapins on the scoreboard.

Aughinbaugh gave the Terps their second run in the sixth as well, as the junior laced a RBI single to score Dillard. Dillard and Corey Schwartz also had singles in the inning.

While a Maryland rally looked in tact, Indiana put the game away with three runs in the seventh to notch an 8-3 victory.

GAME TWO

Skylynne Ellazar boosted her season batting average to .386 in a 12-1 loss to Indiana.

Like the first game, Indiana used a two-out surge in the first inning to take an early lead. This time, four straight Hoosiers reached base to round out the inning as a two-out Terrapin error was followed by a walk and two hits, including a bases clearing double. Maryland went down in order in the bottom half and trailed, 4-0.

Indiana tacked on three in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth for a total of twelve.

Hannah Dewey hurled the first three innings before Ari Jarvis and Brenna Nation combined for the next two.

The Terps had many chances to score runs in this game, putting two on in the first and loading the bases in the second.

A run broke through in the third, as Skylynne Ellazar hit her team leading eleventh double, and then on the next pitch, Kristina Dillard brought her in with a crack up the middle.

Maryland had three doubles in this game, as Jordan Aughinbaugh and Sarah Lang added to Ellazar's.

The Terrapins will wrap up their 2016 campaign tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day. Maryland will honor the careers of four year starters, Lindsey Schmeiser and Corey Schwartz, before wrapping up the series and season against Indiana at 1:00 p.m.
