COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Recent senior graduates Matt Dunn and Henry West were named Division I United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans Friday evening.
“I am so proud of Matt and Henry's accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field,” said head coach John Tillman. “Matt and Henry are more than deserving of this honor and I know they will continue to have success in their professional endeavors.”
The Terrapins have had 12 USILA Scholar All-Americans in six seasons under Tillman.
A two-time USILA All-American defender and Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American, Dunn is one of the most decorated student-athletes on and off the field in Maryland history. The Towson, Md., native recently graduated with a 3.6 GPA in finance, and helped lead the Terrapins to three NCAA Final Fours and two NCAA Championship game appearances.
West started 39 consecutive games at midfield for the Terrapins over the last two seasons, recently graduating with a 3.3 GPA in economics. West totaled 79 points and more than 50 goals in three seasons with the Terrapins, including a career-best 6-point effort in the 2016 NCAA National Championship game. He also helped lead the Terrapins to three NCAA Final Fours and two NCAA Championship game appearances.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Please note that simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being All League/Conference does not make the Student-Athlete a lock for the award. Each Individual will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Scholar AA committee.
