COLLEGE PARK Md. – Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese has welcomed Lanie Deppe and Sean Ehlbeck to her staff this week. Deppe has been named Assistant Director of Basketball Performance and Ehlbeck as the Director of Video.
Deppe will oversee the Terrapins' strength, fitness and nutrition regimens on a daily basis. Prior to coming to Maryland, Deppe served as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Old Dominion for two years, working with the women's basketball, lacrosse, swimming/diving and rowing teams.
“Lanie is a rising star in our profession,” Frese said. “She is a tireless worker that will continue to set the bar in our program and allow us to be one of the most physically fit teams in the country. Her knowledge of the game and in her profession sets her apart from all of the rest. We are thrilled to have her join our Maryland family."
Before working at Old Dominion, Deppe oversaw women's swimming, women's soccer, rowing and field hockey at Indiana University from 2008-2014. She spent time at LaSalle University where she worked with rowing, women's lacrosse, women's swimming, volleyball, softball and diving.
“I'm thrilled to be back in the Big Ten working with one of the best women's basketball programs in the country,” Deppe said. “It is an amazing opportunity to be working and growing alongside Coach Frese and the rest of the Maryland staff. I'm excited to be a part of the championship culture not only established by Coach Frese, but by the rest of the Maryland athletic department as well.”
Deppe is an NSCA and CSCCA member, as well as a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). She is also a certified USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Coach (USAW).
A native of Bloomington, Ind., Deppe was a four-year varsity rower at Indiana University. She earned her bachelor of science as a fitness specialist from Indiana in 2007 and also went on to obtain her masters of science in applied sport science from Indiana in 2011.
Ehlbeck returns to Maryland after working the 2015-16 season at Rice, where he served as video coordinator for former Maryland associate head coach Tina Langley's program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sean back into the Maryland family. Having come up as a scout team member he has been invaluable to our team and program,” Frese said. “It is awesome to see things come full circle and Sean has worked very hard to be where he is at. He has a very bright future as our video coordinator.”
"I am extremely excited and thankful that Coach Frese has given me the opportunity to return to my alma mater and the place that started my career in this profession,” Ehlbeck said. “I couldn't be more grateful to Coach Langley for this past year at Rice University, where I was able to learn and grow tremendously both personally and professionally. I bleed Maryland colors and have the utmost pride and respect for this university and program. I can't wait to be a part of such and incredible staff at a program that continues to set the standard of excellence in women's basketball."
Prior to working at Rice, he worked for the Terrapins for two seasons as the Director of Recruiting Operations. He also had duties with video from his previous position as a player development and video intern. Prior to those roles, he was a four-year practice player for the Terps.
Ehlbeck graduated from the R.H. Smith School of Business with a double major in marketing and supply chain management in 2013. Ehlbeck is originally from Andover, Mass. where he played varsity basketball and football.
