Pro Terps Update: Maryland Soccer Edition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As we hit the midway mark of the Major League Soccer season, let's take a glimpse at former Terps in the professional ranks.

MLS

Marc Burch-Colorado Rapids

In 2016: Started in 15 of 16 games he's appeared in. Posted one assist and a pair of shots.

●     Burch is an experienced fullback who has played for five MLS teams to date

AJ Delagarza-LA Galaxy

In 2016: Has started in 15 matches this season.

●     One of the most versatile defenders in MLS, Delagarza has played a pivotal role in the club's recent success. He has shown that he can capably play every position on the backline, and was part of a unit that conceded an MLS-low 35 goals in 2014

●     He has been named the Galaxy's Defender of the Year two times (2012, 2014) and played an integral role in their three most recent MLS Cup wins (2011, 2012, 2014) as well as their run to MLS Cup in 2009 as a rookie.

●     Delagarza was named the 2014 MLS Humanitarian of the year for his work with the #LucaKnowsHeart campaign, which he started after he and his wife lost their newborn son to complications from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a congenital heart defect.

Maurice Edu-Philadelphia Union

In 2016: Has not played due to a stress fracture in his left leg

●     A former number one overall MLS Draft Pick, and MLS Rooke of the Year, and member of the United States National team

●     Started in all 22 games he appeared in during the 2015 campaign, scoring a goal and adding an assist for the Union.

Tsubasa Endoh-Toronto FC

In 2016: Has appeared in 16 games, notching starts in 14. Has posted two goals.

●     Endoh was named the MVP of the 2016 adidas MLS Player Combine

●     Endoh has represented the Japanese National team at the U-12, U-13, U-14, U-15 and U-17 levels.

Clarence Goodson-San Jose Earthquakes

In 2016: Started in two games this season.

●     Signed with the Earthquakes in 2013 and has been part of one of the league's most consistent defensive pairings alongside Victor Bernardez ever since.

●     Only defender in MLS to be named Team of the Week five times

●     Only defender in MLS to score two game-winning goals

Taylor Kemp-D.C. United

In 2016: Started in all 21 games he's appeared in, posting two assists.

●     A three-year MLS veteran, Kemp had a breakout season in 2015 season that saw him appear in 27 games

Zac MacMath-Loan from Philadelphia Union in 2015

In 2016: Started in 16 games, notching six shutouts and 38 saves for a 9-2-5 record before the signing of Tim Howard.

●     Made debut with Rapids in 2015 Open Cup

●     Became the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to reach 100 career starts, Oct. 11, 2014

Patrick Mullins-D.C. United

In 2016: Has appeared in 13 games, earning starts in seven.

Robbie Rogers-LA Galaxy

In 2016: Appeared in 12 matches, starting in 10. Tallied one goal on five shots before an ankle injury forced him to the sidelines.

●     Rogers has made over 150 appearances across two spells in the league. Rogers has won two different MLS Cup championships, with the Crew and the Galaxy.

●     Rogers has 14 goals, 22 assists, and almost 13,000 minutes of regular season MLS action to his name.

Chris Seitz - FC Dallas

In 2016: Started in all 18 games he has appeared in, notching seven shutouts and racking up 45 saves for a 10-3-5 record

●     Enjoyed his best pro season in 2014, finishing with an 8-4-4 record, including two clean sheets and a third in a 0-0 draw with Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

●     Decided to cut short his 2012 campaign in order to donate bone marrow and was voted 2012 MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year for his selfless act.

●     Two winning games played in Open Cup

●     Nominated for Save of the Week for goal save against Houston in Week 5 (2016)

Zack Steffen – Columbus Crew

In 2016: Signed with Columbus Crew SC in late July.

●     Started for the U.S. at the Under-20 World Cup and made one appearance for the under-23 team in a friendly against the England under-21s last September

●     Joined German club Freiburg after leaving Maryland in 2014. He played     with the club's reserve side last season and had been expected to be their No. 3 goalkeeper this year as Freiburg were promoted to the top flight.

John Stertzer - Real Salt Lake

In 2016: Has appeared in 12 contests, notching starts in seven. Has one assist on the year.

●     Stertzer has seen his playing time grow in each of his first three years with RSL, moving from two appearances in his rookie year in 2013 to 19 regular season appearances – including nine starts – last year.

Ethan White-New York City FC

In 2016: Has appeared in 13 games, earning starts in seven.

●     Signed a homegrown deal with DC United in 2011, and made 38 appearances, including starting a US Open Cup Final victory in 2013. He then moved to Philadelphia in January 2014, and made a further 24 appearances in two seasons before NYCFC made a move to bolster their backline heading into the 2016 season.

London Woodberry-New England Revolution

In 2016: Has appeared in 16 games, starting in 14. Scored first career goal.

●     Recorded 18 starts for the Revolution in 2015, notching two assists.

●     Made debut with Revolution on April 19 with 2-1 win against Philadelphia

Graham Zusi - Sporting Kansas City

In 2016: Appeared in 14 games, making starts in 13. Boasts one goal and four assists.

●     The only player in the league to have appeared in four successive MLS All Star games.

●     Sporting's 2014 Co-MVP and the team MVP in 2013 during their MLS Cup Championship run.

●     Zusi has made 32 appearances for the US National team, and was a part of the squad that traveled to Brazil for the 2014 world cup, where he tallied two assists in four appearances.

International Pro Terps

Omar Gonzalez-Pachuca C.F.

●     Transferred from LA Galaxy to Pachuca C.F.

●     Joined the LA Galaxy in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, and went on to play 180 regular season games for them, winning the MLS Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2014. He was named the MLS Rookie of the Year in 2009 and the MLS Defender of the Year in 2011

●     Gonzalez won the championship with Pachuca C.F. in his first season being a key player in the team's defense.

Rodney Wallace-Sport Recife

●     Signed with Portuguese side Primeira Liga side F.C. Arouca in January 2016 before heading to Sport Recife of Brazilian Serie A

●     Wallace was drafted in the first round (6th overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United

●     Played for the Portland Timbers from 2011-2015

●     Earned a total of 17 caps for Costa Rica, scoring three goals. He represented his country in three FIFA World Cup qualification matches

Mikey Ambrose-Orlando City B

●     Currently with Orlando City B of the USL

●     Ambrose left college early to sign a professional contract with the Austin Aztex who moved up to the USL

Mael Corboz-Wilmington Hammerheads FC

In 2016: Appeared in 14 games, notching a goal and four assists.

●     On December 23, 2015, Corboz signed a Homegrown Contract with the New York Red Bulls

Jeremy Hall-Sacramento Republic FC

In 2016: Appeared in one game, making one start.

●     Loaned to Sacramento Republic FC on July 20, 2016 after signing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies

●     Was drafted 11th overall by the New York Red Bulls in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft

Sunny Jane-Richmond Kickers

In 2016: Has played in 10 games, notching one goal.

●     Jane returns to the USL this season after a two-year stint with the Wilmington Hammerheads

●     Capped four times by the Lesotho National Team, Jane most recently competed in the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Tournament in South Africa in May 2015

Alex Lee-Richmond Kickers

In 2016: Has played in 10 games, notching one goal.

●     Lee is in his third season with Richmond, making 43 appearances over the past two seasons, he most recently notched one goal and six assists while contributing to seven shutouts in 2014

Dan Metzger-New York Red Bulls II

●     Metzger was selected with the 42nd overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United

●    Has returned to full fitness after season-ending knee surgery last summer.

●    Has played in 18 Red Bulls II games, starting 12 and posting three goals and one assist.

Casey Townsend-Wilmington Hammerheads FC

In 2016: Appeared in eight games, posting two goals.

Schillo Tshuma-Saint Louis FC

●     Tshuma comes to Saint Louis by way of the Portland Timbers who drafted him with the 17th overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

Kaoru Forbess and Jereme Raley - Baltimore Blast

In 2016: After going 15-4 during the regular season, the Blast went 6-0 in the postseason with two-game sweeps against the Syracuse Silver Knights, Missouri Comets and Sonora to claim Baltimore's eighth professional indoor soccer championship.
