COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland football team held an open practice to the public on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, followed by its annual crab feast hosted by the Terrapin Club.
First-year head coach DJ Durkin continued preparation for the 2016 season by running the Terps through a series of drives during the scrimmage, while also breaking off into situation drills.
“I thought it was a good practice,” Durkin said. “We did a lot of situational stuff, so you can always learn from the good and the bad. There are some things we did right and we also made some mistakes, so we'll go back and watch the film and learn. It was a good day for us.”
Numerous players stood out during the scrimmage, including receivers Teldrick Morgan, DeAndre Lane, Levern Jacobs and Malcolm Culmer, who all scored touchdowns.
Special teams play was also strong, as Adam Greene and Michael Shinsky each converted on their field goal attempts.
Fans were invited onto the field after the scrimmage to play catch on the turf and take photos with Testudo. 25 lucky fans were also selected to take part in a field goal kicking contest.
After the practice, over 500 donors joined Durkin, Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson and the 2016 football program for an entertaining evening, featuring steamed Maryland crabs and music.
The Terps open the 2016 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Howard. The game, set to kickoff at noon, will air live on Big Ten Network. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking here.
