PHILADELPHIA – The Maryland women's soccer team defeated Penn, 3-1, behind goals from redshirt freshman Darby Moore, sophomore Cassie Phillips and sophomore Jarena Harmon at Rhodes Field Sunday evening.
The Terrapins (2-1-1) jumped all over the Quakers, scoring twice in the first 12 minutes. Maryland withstood an aggressive Penn attack in the final 45 minutes and Harmon finished off the game with her goal in the 71st minute.
Maryland started fast and was rewarded with Moore's tally in the sixth minute. The redshirt freshman streaked down the right channel and played the ball off to junior Chelsea Jackson, who slid a through ball into the box after Moore continued her run. Some miscommunication in the Quaker defense allowed Moore to pounce and slot the ball into an empty net.

Phillips used some individual brilliance to score in the 12th minute. After intercepting the ball in midfield, the sophomore took a few strides and blasted a 30-yard right-footed effort over keeper Carrie Crook and into the top corner of the net.

The goals were Moore and Phillips' first as Terrapins. All eight of Maryland's goals this season have been scored by players that had not previously scored in a Maryland uniform before this year.
Maryland continued to press and drew a dangerous free kick on the right side of the box. Freshman Jlon Flippens service was solid, but no Terps was able to get on the end.
After Penn tied the game with 20 minutes remaining, Harmon put the game away just a minute later. Another great delivery off a free kick from Flippens found Harmon, who headed in at the back post. The goal was Harmon's fourth in her past two matches.

Two Terrapin keepers split the game as redshirt sophomore Rachel Egyed played the opening 45 minutes before sophomore Kaitlyn Jensen finished the game in the second half. The duo combined for seven saves.
Maryland returns to action at home Friday as Pepperdine comes to College Park. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and the match can be seen live on BTN Plus.
