COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore forward Gordon Wild has been named Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Wild scored three goals in a pair of wins over Rutgers and Penn State last week.
After scoring an early goal in an overtime win against the Scarlet Knights on the road on Tuesday, Wild put two in the back of the net in a pivotal conference matchup with Penn State in front of nearly 6,000 fans Sunday night.
Wild's game-winning goal – his third this season – in overtime against the Nittany Lions came off a beautiful pass from fellow sophomore D.J. Reeves.
Wild's eight goals through seven games in 2016 are more than any single Terrapin amassed the entire 2015 campaign.
A native of Cologne, Germany, Wild leads the Big Ten in goals (8) and points (17) and is third and fourth nationally in each category, respectively.
Maryland - ranked first in the latest NSCAA poll released Tuesday - welcomes Michigan State at 7:30 pm Friday at Ludwig Field.
