Full 2016-17 Schedule
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy announced his team's 2016-17 schedule today which features Big Ten home matches against Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue Indiana and Northwestern. In all, four of Maryland's opponents for the upcoming year finished in the top-10 at last year's NCAA Championships, while seven squads were top-25 teams.
The Terps are slated to wrestle 18 duals during this year's campaign, in addition to several open tournaments highlighted by the historic Midlands Championships December 29-30.
Maryland will open its season with the annual Red vs. Black Wrestle-Offs on October 30, 2016, before the squad makes its way south for the Southeast Open in Salem, Va. on November 6. The Terps will get underway in dual match action on November 20, when the squad faces Virginia and Lock Haven at the Cavalier Duals in Charlottesville, Va.
Maryland will be back at the Grapple at the Garden for the fourth straight season the following Sunday, November 27 to take on Ivy League foes Princeton and Columbia. The Terps return to the mat Friday, December 9 for a doubleheader against George Mason and North Dakota State, before kicking off B1G competition with a home dual vs. Rutgers on December 11.
After competing at the Midlands Championships, the squad will ring in the New
Year at the XFINITY Center on Sunday, January 8 with matches vs. B1G counterpart Illinois and local rival Navy. The Terps will head west for their first Big Ten road trip January 13-15, when the team faces Michigan and Michigan State (respectively).
The Terps will be back in College Park for a dual vs. Purdue on January 20, before having the unique opportunity to wrestle Ohio State on Sunday, January 22 at Good Counsel in Olney, Md. Good Counsel is the former high school of Olympic gold medal winner and Woodbine, Md. native Kyle Snyder who is entering his third season with the Buckeyes in 2016-17.
Maryland begins the month of February with a home dual vs. Indiana on February 3, before wrapping up its home slate on February 10 against Northwestern for senior day. The Terps finish out the 2016-17 campaign on the road with duals scheduled at Penn State (2/12), Rider (2/18) and Drexel (2/18).
The Big Ten Championships will be hosted in Bloomington, Ind. on the campus of Indiana University March 3-4. This season's NCAA Championships will be held March 16-18 at the Scotttrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
