COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Former Maryland women's basketball standouts Alyssa Thomas, Tianna Hawkins, Alicia DeVaughn and Laurin Mincy will all play professionally overseas over the next six months.
These four Terrapin alums will join Katie Rutan (Phoenix Galati) and Tierney Pfirman (Sepsi-SIC), who are both set to play in Romania.
Thomas was the No. 1 overall pick in the South Korean league (WKBL) by the team, Samsung. She was also the No. 1 pick in the WKBL in 2014-15 and went on to lead the league in scoring with 19.1 points per game and 11.1 rebounds in 30 games with KEB Hanabank.
Hawkins was selected 10th overall in the WKBL draft by the team, KDB. The Korean league starts during the first week of November.
DeVaughn returns to Flammes Carolo Basket in Ardennes in Charleville, France for her second season. Last season, she averaged 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 29 games.
Mincy has signed with Satu Mare in Romania. Last season, Mincy played with Ramat Hasharon in Israel and averaged 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 50.4 percent from the field.
Over her 18 years as a head coach, 16 of Brenda Frese's former players have gone on to play professionally around the world.
