
Maryland Seniors Named to Wooden Midseason Top 25

LOS ANGELES – Seniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough are two of 25 of the top players in the nation named to the John R. Wooden Award Top 25 released this week. Maryland is one of five schools with multiple student-athletes on the list.
For the full list, click here. Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were both named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 earlier this season.
They lead the Terrapins (16-1, 4-0 B1G) in scoring, combining for 35.8 points per game. Jones is averaging 19.2 points and 10.5 boards per game, as well as 68.7 percent (134-195) from the field. She has 11 double-doubles this season, including a current streak of seven straight.
Walker-Kimbrough is just behind her with 16.6 points per contest and is averaging 53.6 percent (98-183) from the field. She is shooting 41.5 percent (27-65) from outside the arc.
In the Terrapins' 89-83 win over Penn State Wednesday, Jones went 15-for-19 from the field for 42 points, which tied the program record for points in a game. She became the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 career rebounds. She moved into 13th all-time in the Terrapins' scoring record book with 1,557 career points.
Walker-Kimbrough is currently No. 7 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,782 career points. Her career three-point field goal percentage of 45.5 percent (141-310) leads the Maryland record books.
The 41st annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award® to the men's and women's most outstanding basketball player will be the anchor presentation of the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's® on ESPN2 on Friday, April 7, 2017. The men's and women's John R. Wooden Award All-American Teams will be honored during the ceremony, and the 2017 Wooden Award Legends of Coaching Trophy™ will be presented to Muffet McGraw, Head Women's Basketball Coach at Notre Dame.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award® program features the most prestigious individual honors in college basketball. The Wooden Award Trophy is bestowed annually upon the nation's best male and female player, who have proven to their respective universities that they are making progress toward graduation while maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Frese grew up in Cedar Rapids, roughly 25 miles from the University of Iowa campus. The Terrapins will visit with her family at her childhood home Friday night before Saturday's matchup.
