UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Maryland track and field got its weekend started at the Penn State National Invitational Friday evening, where two Terps sealed event victories at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Senior Lisa Meneau ran one of the fastest times ever for a Terp in the 60 meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 8.40. The mark knocked six hundredths of a second off her career-best time in the race, and moves her into a tie with Kiani Profit (8.40 – 2010) for second on the Maryland all-time list.
Junior Louis Corgliano secured a victory for Maryland in the 5000 meter run, crossing the line in 14:50.42 to outpace the field.
Junior Peyton Wade turned in a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.68. She was also one of three Terps to finish in the top-10 of the long jump, taking third overall with a leap of 5.84 meters. Junior Kayla Richardson (5.67m) and sophomore Jewel Smith (5.67m) took sixth and eighth respectively.
AJ Ruffin made his way into the finals of the 60 meter dash after going 6.93 in the prelims, where he finished in 6.91 to claim sixth in the field.
Senior Sydney Almeida posted an 11th place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:48.11.
Maryland will return for day two of the meet tomorrow morning at 10:30 am. UMD will also have athletes in action at the Navy Wesley Brown Invitational.
