COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 12th-ranked Maryland field hockey team (10-5) will take on No. 3 Virginia (12-2) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Cavaliers' University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville.

• Against No. 6 Penn State Sunday, senior Carrie Hanks scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute for a 2-1 double-overtime win. She took a pass from sophomore Madison Maguire and sent in a high shot just under the crossbar. Senior Lein Holsboer put the Terps on the board with a goal in the 41st minute. Penn State tied it up three minutes later. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Holliday made nine saves to preserve Maryland's fourth straight win.
• Bodil Keus was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday for her second career weekly honor. She made defensive stop after defensive stop to break up opportunities in the Terps' two top 25 wins this weekend. Against No. 25 Ohio State, she and the Terps' defense held the Buckeyes scoreless for nearly 60 minutes. She scored Maryland's third goal off a penalty corner in the second half. Against No. 6 Penn State, she helped hold the Nittany Lions to one goal. She made a key defensive save with under five minutes to play in regulation time to preserve the tie. She played all 86:12 on the field.
• Fifth-year senior Marissa Cutry will serve as the Terps' team captain for the 2017 season.
• The Terrapins welcome eight newcomers to the roster this season from all over the world and the United States. These new faces come to College Park from The Netherlands, South Africa, Pennsylvania and the local area.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is in her 30th season as head coach of the Terrapins. She's led them to a record of 537-133-9 (.798), seven NCAA titles, 23 conference titles and 16 Final Fours. She has been named NFHCA National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times in her career.
Scouting the cavaliers
• No. 3 Virginia is 12-2 overall and 4-1 in ACC play. UVA beat No. 7 Syracuse, 2-1, this past weekend.
• Tara Vittese is leading the Cavaliers with 22 goals and 14 assists this season.
• Maryland leads the all-time series, 40-20-2, and has won 18 of the last 19 matchups, dating back to 2001. The Terps beat the Cavaliers, 2-1, last year on Oct. 25 in College Park. Linnea Gonzales scored off a corner in the 24th minute. Virginia tied it up before halftime, then Madison Maguire scored the game-winner 10 minutes into the second half.

Three Terps Selected To Big Ten Players To Watch List
• Junior Linnea Gonzales, seniors Lein Holsboer and Carrie Hanks were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list in August. The full list, click HERE.
• Hanks has been a leader of the Terrapins' defense the last three years, starting in all 69 games of her career. She's scored nine goals with 12 assists in her career. Hanks was named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team for the second straight season last year.
• Holsboer earned NFHCA Third Team All-America honors last season, as well as All-Big Ten Second Team honors. She has 11 career goals and 24 career assists in her 68 career games.
• Gonzales was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015. She has notched 20 career goals and six assists. The junior also earned NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region honors the last two seasons.

• The Terrapins welcome two new assistant staff members in 2017. Former Terrapin Katie Bam joins the Terrapins as assistant coach and Marvin Bam comes as an assistant coach as well.
• Katie Bam, a two-time Olympian, played for the Terrapins from 2007 through 2010, leading them to the 2008 and 2010 NCAA championships, as well as three ACC titles. A four-time NFHCA All-American, Bam was named ACC Player of the Year all four years of her career, and won the Honda Sports Award as the nation's top player twice. She represented the United States in the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
• Marvin Bam brings over 20 years of experience as a player and a coach to College Park. In 2017, he served as an assistant at Harvard and helpe the Crimson to its first Ivy League title since 2004.As a player, Bam earned 98 international caps, competing in over 30 international tournaments. A native of South Africa, Bam represented his home country in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, as well as at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, the African Cup Championship and the Commonwealth Games.

The Terrapins joined the Big Ten conference in 2014, after playing in the ACC for 31 years. Big Ten field hockey is the largest conference in the history of the sport in the NCAA with nine teams - Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland.
• The Terps are 116-37-3 (.753) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is 99-17-1 (.850) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 30 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
• Since joining the league in 2014, the Terps are 27-4 in conference play.
• The Terrapins are 38-3 (.927) vs. Big Ten teams at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• The Terrapins won the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Iowa on Nov. 1, 2014 in College Park.
• Maryland defended its first Big Ten title when it clinched the 2015 regular season crown with a 1-0 overtime win vs. Indiana on Oct. 23.
• The Terrapins won their first Big Ten Tournament title with a 5-1 win over second-seeded and 10th-ranked Michigan on Nov. 8 in the final. Welma Luus scored four goals in the match and broke a Tournament record with seven in the three-game run.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 167-21 (.888) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 26 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games and has played host to three Final Fours (2007, 2010, 2014). The Terrapins are 23-3 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
PACK THE HOUSE
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance in five of the last seven years.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.

• Jill Witmer competed with Team USA in the Rio Olympics last summer, along with volunteer assistant coach Stefanie Fee.
• Recent Terp alums Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker are on the U.S. Women's National Team. Senior Carrie Hanks and recent grad Kasey Tapman are on the U.S. Developmental Squad.
