ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior Youssif Hemida was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week as announced by the conference offices Tuesday. Hemida becomes the first-ever Maryland wrestler to earn the distinction, after the Mamaroneck, N.Y. native sealed Maryland's upset win over Stanford on November 18 with a buzzer-beating takedown.
Hemida knocked off No. 12 Nathan Butler of Stanford in thrilling fashion, getting a takedown in the final seconds of the third period to clinch a 3-1 decision and 18-15 match victory for the Terrapins (3-1).
He then went on to a 4-0 finish at the Road Runner Open on November 19, picking up three wins by fall and two wins over B1G opponents. Hemida now stands at 7-0 on the year, and moved up to the No. 12 heavyweight in the country via the latest InterMat Wrestling Division I rankings released Tuesday.
